 About Growing Green

Growing Green is a joint effort of the Louisiana Workforce Commission, Louisiana State University, Mississippi Department of Employment Security and Mississippi State University.

 History

The Growing Green web portal is a showcase of Louisiana Workforce Commission’s efforts to highlight transformation of the state’s workforce to a greener economy. This collaborative partnership among Louisiana workforce Commission, Louisiana State University, Mississippi Department of Employment and Security and Mississippi State University and headed by the Louisiana Workforce Commission was made possible through a 1.5 year, $2.3 million grant by the US Department of Labor. The web portal forms a link to our research efforts and the diverse audience we serve to understand the Green Economy in Louisiana.

Contacting over 20,000 leading businesses, training providers, research institutes and grant awardees we have developed tailored products that include green job openings and their greenness index, green training providers, 22 Industry profiles, trends in green job openings, and related news and resources thus catering to the needs of diverse audience of employers, job seekers, public policy makers and researchers.

Protecting the coastline and the wetlands of Louisiana from natural and human processes provides unique challenges to workforce in the state. The project has developed the unique skills needed for the major occupations in Louisiana’s coastal restoration efforts including competency models, career pathways, and impact of coastal restoration spending on local communities.

In an era of technology we have developed tools for professionals, job seekers and policy makers and packaged it in the most effective and easy to use manner through the website which also boasts of the first of its kind app for smart phones.

Our efforts for the project are aimed at illustrating the future projected growth of the emerging and evolving industries and occupations and bridge the gap between the supply and demand for these new drivers of workforce in the state. For more information you can contact us at lmi@lwc.la.gov.
